Hey Everyone! Today, we’re taking your taste buds on a wild ride with a dish that’s a lil’ fancy: Uni Pasta!

If you’ve never tried sea urchin (uni), you’re in for a treat. Brace yourselves for a creamy, dreamy pasta adventure. But before we dive into this sea-to-table sensation, let’s get to know a little more about our star ingredient – the elusive and utterly unique sea urchin.

Uni Fun Facts:

  • Funky Appearance: Uni, or sea urchin roe, looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie. Picture spiky orbs of awesomeness hiding a treasure trove of vibrant orange goodness inside.
  • Ocean Gold: These little guys are like the rockstars of the ocean. Sea urchins are often referred to as the gold miners of the sea, harvesting nutrients and flavor from their underwater habitat.
  • Flavor Explosion: Uni isn’t your average seafood. It’s got this rich, briny, and slightly sweet flavor.

For this recipe I got my uni pre-cleaned at H-Mart in Orange County, CA!

Elevate your pasta game with the buttery taste of sea urchin in our Creamy Uni Pasta recipe. The uni’s delicate flavor combined with the richness of the cream creates a dish that is not only visually stunning but also delish.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz Uni

  • 6 oz spaghetti

  • 1 tsp minced garlic

  • 1/4 c diced onions

  • 1/8 tsp red pepper flakes

  • 1/2 c butter unsalted

  • 1 1/2 tsp half & half (half whole milk, half cream)

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • Garnish
  • masago/roe

  • nori

  • green onions

Directions

  • Cook the Pasta: Boil that pasta to perfection. We’re talking al dente, not too mushy, not too firm about 9-10 mins. Drain and set it aside.
  • Sauté and Sizzle: In a pan, heat up 1 tbsp butter and toss in onions and red pepper on medium low for 3-4 mins. Add garlic and cook for 30 secs. Remove from heat. Whisk in uni reserving a few pieces for garnish.
  • Creamy Dreamy Sauce: Add the rest of the butter and mix. Add half and half and mix gently. Stir it up until you’ve got a creamy sauce. Season with salt and pepper (adding more to taste). Toss in pasta.
  • Garnish: Place pasta on the plate and garnish with uni, masago, nori and green onions. Serve immediately.
