In the culinary world, garlic is a staple ingredient known for its distinct aroma and flavor.

While store-bought minced garlic in jars may seem convenient, making your own minced garlic at home with olive oil not only saves you money but also enhances the taste of your dishes. In this blog post, I’ll guide you through the simple process of creating homemade minced garlic and highlight the benefits of this DIY approach.

Benefits of Homemade Minced Garlic:

Cost-Effective: Buying fresh garlic bulbs and preparing your minced garlic at home is considerably more economical than purchasing pre-packaged jars of minced garlic. You can save a significant amount of money in the long run, especially if you frequently use garlic in your cooking.

Superior Flavor: Freshly minced garlic offers a vibrant and intense flavor that surpasses the jarred alternatives. By preparing it yourself, you ensure the freshness and potency of the garlic, elevating the taste of your dishes to new heights.

Control Over Ingredients: When you make your own minced garlic, you have full control over the ingredients used. You can choose high-quality garlic bulbs and incorporate extra-virgin olive oil, allowing you to customize the flavor profile to your preference.

Ingredients

  • 4-5 bulbs of garlic

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Enough to cover garlic)

Directions

  • Start with Fresh Garlic: Purchase firm and plump garlic bulbs from your local grocery store or farmer’s market. Look for bulbs with tight, unblemished skin.
  • Separate and Peel: Place the cloves inside a pot, place the lid on and shake vigorously until they are peeled.
  • Mince the Garlic: Finely mince the peeled garlic cloves with a knife or food processor.
  • Combine with Olive Oil: Place the minced garlic into a clean and dry container or jar. Add enough extra-virgin olive oil to fully submerge the garlic. The oil helps preserve the minced garlic and adds flavor.
  • Seal the container tightly and store it in the refrigerator. The minced garlic can be used immediately, but its flavor will further develop and intensify over time. NOTE: Must store in the fridge for up to 7 days.

  1. Could you use “Grapeseed Oil” in replacement of “Extra Virgin Olive Oil”? My kids absolutely distest the taste of Virgin Olive Oil. And yes they’ll be able to separate the taste bwtween the Virgin Olive Oil from the Garlic!!! No matter how long the Garlic has been submerged in the Virgin Olive Oil & the flavours have intensified together. My kids are very taste, texture & smell sensitive as part of their “Sensory Process Disorder”. Or as I like to call it their “Sensory Issues” instead of its official diagnosis name because they have a long list of disorders as it is. Trust me when I say they’ll notice the taste difference!! However they have no “Sensory Issues” whatsoever with “Grapeseed Oil” because it has no taste! In fact it takes on the taste of whatever it’s being used for & or with which works perfectly with my kids & their “Sensory Issues”. I would be most grateful for your feedback 😊

    1. Yes! Just make sure you refrigerate it and use it within a week!
