Vietnamese Street Food: Mực Khô Nướng (Grilled Dried Squid)

Today I want to share with you one of my favorite Vietnamese childhood Street snacks, Mực khô nướng! You can see and smell this tasty snack a mile away!

It consist of basically grilling these seasoned dried squids. Then dipping them in various sauces! Growing up we kept it pretty simple, we used a mixture of hoisin and Sriracha. You can add more or less depending on your taste. More hoisin means more sweeter, Sriracha means more spicy.

Traditionally these are grilled over coals or charcoal, but I got a new grill so that works too. I don’t recommend making them in the oven because it’s just not the same. Also this bag of dried squid I got from the Asian Garden Mall a.k.a. Phuoc Loc Tho in Westminster, CA. You can also find them in a lot of Asian markets that sell dried herbs and goods.

Ingredients

  • Dried Squid(s)

  • Sriracha

  • Hoisin

Directions

  • Grilled Squid for 3 mins each side
  • Make dipping sauce, mix equal parts hoisin and sriracha then adjust to taste
  • Dip full squids or shredded squid in and enjoy!
