How to Make Bò Lúc Lắc Recipe (Vietnamese Shaking Beef)

Today we are making one of my favorite weeknight dinner meals Bò Lúc Lắc Recipe (Vietnamese Shaking Beef)! If you don’t know Bò means beef and Lúc Lắc means to shake or shaking. The beef itself is not shaking but it just refers to the method on how you cook the beef in the pan.

If you’re in a hurry, you can mix everything up and let it marinate for 30 minutes to an hour, but I recommend letting it marinate 2-4 hrs for the full flavor effect. This recipe is super easy and most of the ingredients you’ll have at home besides the bell peppers but it’s pretty easy to find.

For garnishes, I like some fresh lettuce, cucumbers, and tomatoes, because they just complement the marinated beef so well. And of course, a side of steamed rice to go along with it! Let me know how it goes and what other recipes you guys want!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef ribeye (cut into 1 inch cubes)

  • Marinade
  • 3 tbsp minced garlic

  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp fish sauce

  • 1 tsp sesame oil

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 2 tbsp veggie oil/butter

  • Veggies
  • 1/2 onion (quartered)

  • 1/2 bell pepper (optional)

  • Dipping sauce
  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • lime

Directions

  • Mix beef with marinade ingredients (except veggie oil/butter) and let sit for 30 mins – 4 hrs.
  • On med/high heat add about 2 tbsp of veggie oil/butter. Add onions and cook for 2 mins. Add beef and sear each side for 3-4 mins. (This is where the ‘shaking’ happens). You may have to do this in 2-3 batches to not overcrowd the pan.
  • Add bell peppers (optional) and cook for 2-3 mins. Make dipping sauce and serve with rice and veggies.
